I’m Katie Riley. I’m a nurse and serve as the Director of Medical Care with Hope for Home Ministries. We work in Guatemala and Liberia to love children with disabilities. Sometimes this is preventative care as in birthing centers and nutrition programs. Sometimes this is providing remote families with the resources they need to keep their child with special needs at home with their own family. And at times when that is not possible, we have 5 small group homes for children with special needs who are not safe at home. As a nurse, my role is to help educate families and caregivers in safety and basic medical and nutritional care. I manage the cases of some of our more sensitive children, and aid in communication between providers, parents, and staff. I most enjoy direct care—when I get to sit with families in their homes or spend time with our kids in the group homes, specifically piling in for cuddles.
