Vicente lives in the department of Petén with his mother, step-dad, and younger brother. When he was 26, his family says that he came down with a high fever and suddenly started having seizures. His family took him to the doctor at that time, but they could not afford the medication or tests that the doctor ordered. For four years, Vicente continued to live with regular seizures occurring two or three times each day, leaving him with reduced mental capacity and often causing physical injuries. We took him to see a neurologist, who prescribed an anti-seizure medication that has completely stopped the seizures.
