Emanuel & Shannon Alvarez
Hello! We are Emanuel (Manny) and Shannon Alvarez. We are the directors of the Alvarez Group Home, or Hogar De La Esperanza 3. We have been in Guatemala since 2018 and can’t imagine being anywhere else! God has taken us through many changes over the years! We moved down with our five children. Two have now returned to the US to pursue nursing careers, a desire that began with their time working with medical clinics here in Guatemala. Three of our daughters are still here, as well as our grandson. They live with us in the home and help so much!
We have had 8 children come through our doors since our home officially opened in 2019. We’ve sent two of our daughters and one son into the arms of Jesus and sent one of our boys to his biological aunt. We’ve loved every child who has entered our doors and we are committed to caring for them as long as God and the courts allow! Our life has been thrown for many large loops, including Manny‘s battle with cancer. In 2021 he was diagnosed with cancer and has continued to fight with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Manny is also the director of the Hope for Home Rural Ministry where medical needs, food, and formula are provided to families with children with special needs all over Guatemala. We don’t know what the future holds but we know who holds it all in His hands. We’d love for you to learn more about us and see if there is a way you can join alongside us as we love the community God has brought us to!
